Unpaid toll texts
A text says you owe a small toll (often a few dollars) and must pay today through a link to avoid fines. It’s one of the most common scam texts in the U.S. right now.
How it works
- The message names a real toll system (E-ZPass, SunPass, FasTrak and others).
- The link goes to a look-alike website that steals your card details.
- The small amount makes it feel harmless — but they’re after your card number.
Warning signs
- A link that isn’t the toll agency’s real website
- A small “unpaid balance” and a threat of late fees
- A text from an unknown number or email address
What to do
- Don’t tap the link. Delete the message.
- If you think you might owe a toll, check on the official toll website or app yourself.
- If you entered your card, call your bank using the number on the back of the card.
What it can look like
E-ZPass: You have an unpaid toll balance of $4.15. To avoid a late fee of $50, pay today at ezpass-tollpay.xyz
