AskFirst helps families spot scams. We collect as little as we can, and we never sell personal information or show ads.
What we collect
- Helper accounts: name, email, a hashed password, and an optional phone number for text alerts.
- Protected people: the name (and optional phone number) a helper enters, like “Mom”. They don’t need an email or password.
- Checks: the text someone chooses to check, or their answers about a call or money request, and our result. Screenshots are read once and not stored. We never access anyone’s texts, emails or calls on our own.
- Website checks: messages pasted into the free checker on our website aren’t stored; we keep only the result and a scrambled network identifier to limit abuse.
- Billing: handled by Stripe. We never see full card numbers.
How we use it
To check messages, show results to the person and the helpers in their family, send alerts and weekly summaries, process payments, prevent abuse and improve accuracy (for example, when someone marks a result as wrong).
Who processes data for us
- Anthropic (AI that reads the content being checked; not used to train models)
- Postmark (email) and Twilio (text messages)
- Stripe (payments)
- Our hosting provider
Who can see checks
The person who made the check and the helpers in their family. Our team accesses them only to provide support you ask for or to investigate abuse.
Keeping and deleting data
Checks are kept for 30 days on the Free plan and 1 year on the Family plan, then deleted automatically. Helpers can delete any check, and you can delete your account anytime in Account settings.
Your rights
You can access, correct, export or delete your data. Email AskFirst <hello@askfirstfamily.com>.
