Scam guide

Fake package delivery texts

A text or email claims to be from USPS, UPS, FedEx or Amazon saying a package can’t be delivered and you need to “update your address” or pay a small fee.

How it works

  • It arrives when many people really are waiting for packages.
  • The link leads to a fake page that asks for your card or personal details.
  • Some versions ask you to call a number, where a “support agent” asks for more information.

Warning signs

  • A link that isn’t usps.com, ups.com, fedex.com or amazon.com
  • A small redelivery fee
  • No tracking number, or one you don’t recognize

What to do

  • Don’t tap the link.
  • Check your orders in the store’s app or by typing the shipper’s website yourself.
  • Delete the message.

What it can look like
